12 Weeks Pregnant

12 Week Ultrasound

3D/4D Ultrasound

What fun to peek in on our little one! The office just got a new machine, and I was the last patient of the day. The technician spent an hour with us so she could learn the machine. It was so neat to see the activites of our baby for an hour! The baby started off so active - moving around, kicking, waving, flipping, and looking like it was having such a great time. Over the course of the hour we saw the baby start to slow down. Then the thumb sucking began, the baby started rubbing its eyes, and then we watched our little one fall asleep! What an amazing experience! We had the technician check the gender for us. We did see a little nub, but the technician said she wouldn't commit to anything yet because it is still so early. Sometimes even with girls, they have swollen parts, so it is hard to tell this early. So, in two weeks we go back for a gender check! The baby's heartbeat was 178 beats per minute. They also did the test for Down's Syndrome. They have to send off the measurements and bloodwork to get the results, but the technician said she can tell by the ultrasound. Our baby looked healthy! On December 23rd we go back to see whether we are having a boy or girl! We can't wait to give our baby a name!

December 8, 2009

Well the boys are growing like weeds! We can hardly keep up with them! We have spent a lot of time outdoors at parks. They are happiest when they are outside and active! When inside they have been so good about playing with each other. They will spend hours together in the play room. They need us less and less everyday! Which of course is liberating and depressing at the same time!

Everett has been on breathing treatments most of the month - the story of his life! Ricky has been on them quite a bit too! This crazy weather goes back and forth so much! In fact, we experienced snow on Friday, December 4th. Because the boys were sick we spent very little time outside. But they begged to go outside in the snow, so I caved and let them go out for a few minutes! They loved catching snowflakes in their mouths!

Ricky and Everett cannot wait for Christmas! They helped decorate inside and out! We watch Christmas movies everyday! They behave for Rudy - their Elf on a Shelf who reports to Santa. We are very grateful for Rudy!

Our boys are always climbing, jumping off things, wrestling, etc. But they also love to cuddle, read, sing, and draw. They are fiercely protective of each other. They are Mama's boys, but adore their Daddy! They absolutely love to rough and tumble with Daddy! Sometime they get carried away and forget they can't play the same way with Mommy! They can't wait to find out if they're having a brother or sister! Neither can we!!

11/20/2009

At 10 weeks, we've had a little scare. I started spotting. I spotted on the 15th and 16th. I called the doctor and the nurse said I had overdone it and needed to take it easy. Well, I didn't spot again until the 19th. And the evening of the 19th it turned bright red. I called the doctor (after hours), and they said if it got worse to go to the ER otherwise to come in in the morning. In the meantime, my entire body broke out in a terrible rash. So first thing in the morning I called and they told me to come right in! They took me right back to ultrasound. It took a second before I could see movement or the heartbeat and I burst into tears. She pointed out the heartbeat, the jawbone, I could see the arms and legs. And our little one started moving it's arms and legs, and then I burst into laughter! What a relief! I am so thankful everything is okay! The heartbeat was 177 beats per minute. The baby's heartbeat at 8 weeks was slower than both our boys, at 10 weeks the heartbeat is much faster than both our boys! After the ultrasound I went to see the doctor. He explained that the bleeding has to do with when and where implantation occurred. He talked about the blood vessel near where the baby is implanted. So everything is okay. He said I may continue to bleed for a couple of weeks. He said not to worry, though he knew I would, but if I needed some assurance to come in anytime. It turns out the rash that I have is a drug reaction. I finished an antibiotic Wednesday and developed the rash Thursday, so it is most likely an allergic reaction to the antibiotic. But to be sure I have to stop all medications, except synthroid for my thyroid, until I go back in two weeks. The first two weeks of pregnancy I lost two pounds. I still have not regained those pounds, so I am still down 2 at 10 weeks. I am counting down the days until we get to see our baby again at 12 weeks!

The boys are doing great! They are both such talkers! I'd say the only time they were quiet was when they were sleeping, but that's not even true - they talk in their sleep! They are thrilled about the new baby! Ricky is always taking care of Mommy and Baby! They both talk to the baby everyday! We are so excited for the holidays! Ricky and Everett can't wait for Santa to come!!! Ricky and Everett both earned a Buzz Lightyear for sleeping in their beds. Ricky continues to do so, but Everett has started waking up from night terrors. So Ricky calms him and tells him he can protect him to get in bed with him! Very sweet! And wonderful for Mommy and Daddy who then don't have to get up! They had their pictures taken with Grammy and then with Mommy and Santa. Check them out below - very cute!!

8 Weeks Pregnant

We saw and heard the baby's heartbeat! Even the third time around it brought me to tears! It is still so amazing to me! The heartbeat was 128. It was much slower than Ricky's and Everett's. Ricky's was 167 at this point, and Everett's was 154. But the doctor said it was well within the normal range! Rick said maybe we'll finally get a laid back child! Not holding my breath on that one! We told Ricky there was only one baby, and he has been so upset! He was really hoping for two! We go back at 12 weeks. They will do another ultrasound and bloodwork. They will be doing a newer test to check for Down's Syndrome. It is less invasive, and he said they haven't had any false positives. I am not worried about Down's Syndrome at all, but I agreed to the test because it will be another time I get to take a peek at our baby! My thyroid levels were off again, so he increased the medication, and they'll recheck that next time too. My progesterone level was very high which is great news! My level was 57. The average for the first trimester is 9-47. I am still feeling pretty yucky! I am taking Zofran in the morning and Phenergan before bed. I have lost two pounds in two weeks, which is significant for me. But I am not worried. I know I can pack on the pounds in pregnancy!

Happy Halloween 2009

We started our Halloween festivites the night before by carving our pumpkins.

Our little boys are our heroes! Ricky dressed up as Spiderman, and Everett was Batman!

Mommy, Daddy, Ricky, and Everett - Grammy, Ricky, and Everett

We went to a church festival with our friends the Alfords.

We had lots of fun with our friends - Brooklyn and Colson, Timothy and Lia, and Justin

Grammy's Fall Visit

Wow! What a visit! Grammy kept the boys entertained from dusk til dawn! They had so much fun! Grammy took the boys to a double feature of Toy Story in 3D. They bounced around at Pump It Up! On a rainy day they made delicious caramel apples! We all went to the Pumpkin Patch with the Alford's where we rode a train and a hay ride! We had a blast at Old MacDonald Farm! Grammy helped the boys make Mummy Dogs for lunch. Grammy was very adventurous and took them both for haircuts and pictures. Ricky went to KinderChef School and made chocolate chip muffins! They also went to go see the movie Astroboy! And in between Grammy spoiled them with lots of fun presents! The excitement was never-ending! Check out the pictures of Grammy's visit! As usual, Grammy hardly appears in the pictures because she is busy orchestrating all the fun! Thanks Grammy! See you in six weeks!

We're Pregnant!

On October 12th we learned we are going to have another baby! I woke up at 3:30 in the morning after having a dream I took two pregnancy tests and both were positive. So I got up and took a test. The line was so faint I couldn't tell if I was seeing things! I woke up Rick and made him check it out. He said it is so faint we should wait a couple hours and see if it's still there. He rolled right over and went back to sleep! Needless to say I couldn't even close my eyes! I had the day off for Columbus Day, so I took the boys to the sitter's house. I went to Walgreen's to get my flu shot. While I was there I bought another type of test that is digital and says the word pregnant or not pregnant. I went home to use it. It said "Pregnant"!! So I took a picture of it and emailed it to Rick at work to see! He called very excited! This was only the second month of trying which is when we got pregnant with both Ricky and Everett!

One day before we knew we were pregnant, Ricky had given me a tight hug. When I asked him what it was for he said he put a baby in my belly! He gave me another tight squeeze and told me now there are two babies! When I told the boys we were pregnant, Ricky screamed "We've been praying for that!" Ever since, Ricky and Everett both want to hug and kiss my belly every night before bed! Ricky is especially protective! And he has started talking in his sleep. Four days after we found out, he was talking in his sleep saying "It's a girl!" Either way we will be thrilled! One morning when Everett woke up he came out and I said "Good morning baby!" And he said "I'm not your baby! I'm Everett! The baby is in your belly!" Ricky calls the baby "Our Little Spec" like the spec from "Horton Hears a Who!". Everett tells us "Everett keep baby healthy, safe!" We were waiting to tell my Mother In Law in person. So when she came down we were so excited to tell her! But Ricky beat us to it! At dinner he blurted out "My mommy has a baby in her belly!" Not the way we planned, but what better way to find out than from your grandson! They are so excited about the new baby! The things they say are priceless!

On October 21st we had our first doctor's appointment. First we had our ultrasound. We saw the sac and the yolk forming. It was still so early because I ovulated late in the month. It looks like we conceived on the 10 year anniversary of our first date! We met with the doctor and he said everything looked great! He said the technician even saw a faint flicker of our baby's heart! Which is amazing, because we could barely even see the baby it was so tiny! So we go back in two weeks for another ultrasound, and this will put us at our monthly visits. Rick and I went to dinner after our appointment to celebrate! When we got home we showed the boys our ultrasound picture. Ricky wants his own picture, so I have copied and laminated one for him to carry around! There's not much to see yet, but it's a picture of his baby and he says he loves it!

October 12, 2009

Ricky is 3 years and 9 months old, and Everett is 2 years and 3 months old! Everett has passed up his brother in weight by almost a pound! They are both wearing 4T clothing. In the last month both boys have been on breathing treatments. Everett has been fighting fever off and on all month. He's had several bouts with viruses, and at one point he had another double ear infection. They have been doing some immune testing on Everett. They reimmunized him with the DTAP and Pnuemonia vaccine. The results just came in, and his antibodies reacted positively. That is fantastic news! We are wondering if Everett needs his tonsils out. Ricky has been so much healthier since his were removed! We've started both boys on some probiotics to see if we can boost their immune systems! Hopefully this will do the trick!

We have had fun times this month! The boys started Awanas and LOVE it! Everett loves to sing and play. Ricky has been memorizing verses to earn a book, bag, and vest! He is very motivated! While Ricky is practicing his verses and reading bible stories, Everett has learned to say the entire Our Father by himself! We are continuing private swim lessons, and the boys are doing fabulous! They are very impressive swimmers! They are making great strides in their lessons! Ricky and Mommy attended Addison's birthday party and got to meet Pablo from the Backyardigans! Our family has also been to the Museum of Natural Science and IMAX again this month. Both boys soak up everything like a sponge! They run from one thing to the next asking questions! Daddy and I are all smiles seeing things through their eyes for the first time!

Rick and I continue to try to have date night once a month. We enjoy our time together! Now that the boys are in Awanas, every Sunday we drop them off and go out to dinner, shop, talk, etc. We treasure the time we spend without distractions! We enjoy just focusing on one another!

We look forward to keeping everyone up to date through our new blog!! Check out pictures below from this month!
